Comfort

by Ottolenghi

Ebury Press

Yotem Ottelenghi needs no introduction! We’ve all loved the flavours he’s introduced us to and his appealing way of plating and serving meals.  In his new book, Comfort, he’s examining what “comfort food” is actually .  Is it the food we make and eat at home after a tough day?  Is it the food we make without having to think too much?  Is it the recipes we grew up on, which remind us of being a kid and being looked after?  Is it food we find irresistible and maybe eat too much of?  Nurture, convenience, nostalgia, indulgence: agreeing on the notion of comfort food is fairly straightforward but choosing the actual dishes that hit these proverbial spots is much harder!   So, Ottolenghi and his co-authors – Helen Goh, Verena Lochmuller, and Tara Wigley – set about combining their various childhood memories and travels around the world to create over 100 recipes that celebrate food and friends and the connections they build.

Think eggie dishes, soups, pastas and noodles, roasts and traybakes, pies and breads and obviously sweet things to end off the perfect comfort meal.  The team came to the conclusion that what makes food comforting is as much about where and how we eat, why we eat and who we eat with as what we’re eating in the first place!
