DROP whatever you’re doing and GET THIS BOOK! Oh my gosh, Broken Country grabs you and doesn’t let go. It’s a love story but
its also a thriller, filled with impossible choices and unthinkable consequences, jumping backward and forward in time, keeping you guessing right to the end.
The story’s set in the Dorset countryside in the 1960’s. It’s Beth’s story – a young country girl who falls in love with a charming boy whose family happen to own the mansion on the hill. They share one glorious summer then Gabriel heads off to Oxford and she is left heartbroken. It’s the lovely farmer-boy Frank who picks up the pieces and he and Beth and their son, Bobby, build a good life together.
Ten years later, Gabriel returns to his family home, their connection is instant and Beth’s world is completely rocked. The blurb says “how can she resist a second chance at first love?” But there is much, much more to the story than the love triangle – it’s filled with unexpected themes, so tenderly handled – first-love, motherhood, grief, guilt and forgiveness. As Delia Owens, author of Where the Crawdads Sing says, it “fires directly at the heart and hits the mark.”
