the gut-loving cookbook

by Alana & Lisa Macfarlane

Pavillion

Twin sisters, Alana and Lisa Macfarlane are the brains behind the Gut Stuff, a social media platform for all things to do with gut health (follow them on Instagram and fb).  They’ve put together an extremely clever little book which explains, with clear, easy to follow diagrams, what is actually going on inside of us.  Think of this book as snacking at the back of a biology lesson, dip in and out, try and read the juicy text bits and make sure you pass along your favourite parts to your classmates.

Not only does it explain the path our food takes but its also filled with recipes that use easily accessible ingredients to include the top three most important elements for a healthy digestive system: namely variety, fibre and ferments.  It’s a fun little cookbook, written in a chatty, friendly style and packed with invaluable info on nutrition which we really should be getting right!
As the authors say: don’t think this book is all “holier than thou” super salads and sauerkraut (although there is a recipe for that); we’re talking generous food that is familiar, friendly and most importantly “gut-ilicious” – from Mac n Cheese to Tacos, Sourdough Pizzas and Shepherd’s Pie to beautifully generous salads and cheeky Kombucha Mocktails.
