Yinka, where is your huzband?

by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn

Penguin Viking

A huzband (pronounced auz-band) is normally a male partner in a marriage but is often a non-existent man in a non-existant marriage whose whereabouts is often asked about, usually by Nigerain mums and aunties to single British Nigerian women, as Yinka knows all too well!

Yinka wants to find love. Her mum wants to find her a huzband. She also has too many aunties who frequently pray for her delivery from singledom and her preference for chicken and chips over traditional Nigerian food.  Yinka is a born and bred South Londoner juggling her big insurance company job, her contemporary lifestyle and her Nigerian roots.

Through text messages, emails, whats apps and voicemails we follow YInka as she lurches from one mishap to the next in her attempt to find love – and more urgently – a date for her cousin Rachel’s wedding.

You’ll find yourself laughing, cringing and backing the delightfully flawed Yinka.
