Book People

by Paige Nick

Pan Macmillan

Oooooo The Book People is such fun!   In real life, Paide Nick is the founder of The Good Book Appreciation Society, a Facebook book club with over twenty-three thousand members, but in the novel she has woven a laugh-out-loud story about people who spend time on this sort of a page.  Its a clever spoof of online clubs and the trouble one can get into if one doesn’t ‘play nicely’!

The story revolves around Norma, an accountant who runs a Facebook book club which is slowly gaining (mostly) well behaved followers.  One of her members, Harry Shields, is a crime writer with a rather inflated opinion of his own books.  When he receives a negative review on Norma’s page he ends up having a spectacular public meltdown.  He gets cancelled, posts and videos of his bad behaviour  go viral and despite everyone’s advice to the contrary, he plots his revenge.  Suddenly the book club has over a hundred thousand members, everyone is commenting, it’s all very entertaining (*grabs popcorn) until one member ends up in a coma…
